Arsenal, Man Utd progress in Cup tie

Arsenal sailed through to the next round of the Capital One Cup after a 6-1 whacking of Coventry City on Wednesday 26 September 2012 at their Emirates Stadium backyard.

The gunners led 1-0 at the break thanks to an Oliver Giroud goal on 39 minutes.

Oxlade-Chamberlain double the score on 57 minutes and an Andrey Arshavin third was soon to follow three minutes after the hour mark.

Thoe Walcott then made it 4-0 on 74 but four minutes after Coventry City got one of their own through striker Callum Ball.

Knocked off

The four goal cushion was however restored on 80 minutes by Miquel and the final score line was confirmed for 6-1 when Walcott completed his brace in the dying minutes of the game.

Joining Arsenal in the next phase of the competition is Manchester United who knocked off Newcastle United 2-1 at the Old Trafford.

Reading beat QPR 

Goals from Anderson on 44 minutes and Tim Cleverly on 58 minutes gave Man Utd the win. Newcastle got a consolation on 62 minutes through Pappis Demba Cisse.

In other games, Carlisle United fell 0-3 to Tottenham Hotspur. Reading beat QPR 2-3 in an all Premiership duel as Liverpool got a 1-2 win at West Brom. Norwich City beat Doncaster Rovers 1-0.
