Goalkeeper Arnold Origi showed up countless time to get
Kenya out of the doldrums after numerous defense lapses in the Africa Cup of
Nations qualification match between Harambee Stars and the Uganda Cranes.
Uganda could have been 1-0 on 18 minutes but Origi raised to the occasion parrying a free-kick for Albania-based defender James Situma to clear it off the line.
Numerous raids
Cranes had numerous chances to score but Origi stood firm denying them a lee-way.
This was especially so in the second half, where Uganda, who needed a win to qualify for finals of the tournament, raised a spirited attempt seeking to slot in at least one goal past the unmovable Origi. In the 78th minute Sserunkuma had a chance on goal but Origi cut him out.
The Uganda striking force was also commendable with Brian Umony, Coach Bobby Williamson’s replacement for disgraced David Obua, breaking the Kenyan defense various times, but always falling short of giving the desperate Ugandan side a reason to celebrate.
Both Kenya and Uganda have been locked out of the finals to watch Angola trot into the 2012 Gabon/Equatorial Guinea event.
