On Saturday 25 June 2011 and four minutes before the full 90 of a KPL Top 8 final between Western
Stima and Ulinzi Stars at the Nyayo National Stadium, Eric Apul well timed a
deep pass for Evans Amuoka on the left wing.
Squeezed
The striker, a substitute in that game then raced ahead of Kevin Amwayi turned him in to get the ball on his right foot. With the near post unguarded by Western Stima keeper David Juma, Amwoka sent a high shot that squeezed in between the keeper and post to give Ulinzi the lead – and the inaugural KPL Top 8 Crown.
New finalist
More than a year later, Evans Amwoka and the man he beat then to get the winner – Amwayi are in the same lineup as Ulinzi plans to retain the Top 8 Cup and take home the Kshs 1 million purse once again against new finalists Gor Mahia in a game that will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani from 1530hrs.
