AllStars shocked at Hope Centre

Intercity FC

Nairobi County League champions Kangemi AllStars suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Intercity, in an exhibition match, on Sunday 14 October, at Hope Centre Kawangware.

AllStars could have taken an early lead in the first half, but Albert Onywera’s scissor kick hit the post, resulting into a fruitless corner.

Great saves

However, credit goes to keeper Boniface Baraza, who kept the Nairobi District League [Zone C] winner in the game with his superb saves.

After a barren first half, Charles Jomba and Abdi Ballack combined well to feed Herman Waki, who made no mistake to put the hosts in front.

In the 74th minute, Ballack had an open chance for Intercity, but he was unlucky as his shot hit the post.

Counter-attack

With four minutes to the stoppage time, AllStars pressed hard for an equalizer, but Baraza cleared the ball and Intercity launched a counter-attack spearheaded by Kelvin Odhiambo for Waki to chip the ball over an advancing keeper Newton Khamadi.

Good show

In an interview with futaa.com after the match, Intercity’s Coach Frank Okoth lauded the performance of his players.

-It’s a seesaw match and scoring against a team with such a mean defense is not easy. I am happy for the boys; they played their hearts out and we are now heading into the play-offs with our heads high, said a jubilant Okoth.
