Simba is on a right track for their Federation Cup title race after beating Algeria’s Entente Setif 2-0 in their first qualifier that was played on 27 March 2012 at the National Stadium Dar es Salaam.
The Lions are now faced with an uphill task of out doing the tougher Algerian side in a bid to make a replay of their 1993 finals. 3-0 win over Algeria’s El-Harrach in Dar es Salaam and 2-0 lose in a return game.
Strong defence strategy
Simba dominated the better part of the game but were sold out at the finishing quarter by their opponents who strived to garner quick away goals. Algeria’s defence stategy was a threat to Simba side that lost five open chances to the first scorer, while Zambian Felix Sunzu also lost two trying to penetrate through Algeria’s side.
Replay promise
According to Mwanaspoti, Algeria’s Coach Alain Geiger who confessed dimmed winning hopes, also attributed their poor display to Hot Tanzanian climate that wore out his players.
-My plan was to get away scores to make thing simplified on our return home but that has since been disrupted. Now, I need to do something extra for the team when we host them back at home because Simba has proved to be a good team.said the Algeria coach.
