AFCON 2013: Redemption day for Cameroon, Angola

2013 AFCON

On Saturday 13 October 2012, six Nations confirmed their places in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after completing aggregate wins over their opponents.

Cameroon must roar

This Sunday 14 October 2013, eight other games have been lined and the aggregate winners will proceed to the African showpiece to be held in South Africa from 9 January 2013.

Sundan will hope to protect a 5-3 first leg win when the team plays Ethiopia at the Machava Stadium from 1600hrs local time.

Indomitable Lions of Cameroon must roar past Cape Verde to overcome a 2-0 first leg loss else miss out on the Africna showpiece. The two will face off at the Omnis Sports stadium in Cameron from 1700hrs.

Need to overcome a 1-0 first leg loss

From 1800hrs, Angola have quite some work to do. Having fallen 3-1 to Zimbabwe in the first leg second round tie back on 8 September 2012, the team needs a 2-0 win at the Cidadela stadium to make it to the Cup of Nations.

At the same hour, Niger will host Guinea who saw them off 1-0 in the first leg. Three hours later, from 2100hrs, Burkina Faso has a similar task to Niger – the need to overcome a 1-0 first leg loss. The Burkinabe’s will be host to Central African Republic at the du 4-Aout Stadium.

Top up

DR Congo are in Equatorial Guinea with a safe 4-0 first leg win and are as good as through unless the hosts, in a game to be played from 2100hrs at the International Stadium in Equatorial Guinea have other plans.

A last tie, set for 2230hrs will see Algeria hope to top up on their 0-1 win over Libya during the first leg to become the third North African Nations to sail through.
