France International Eric Abidal has voiced his disappointment after being released by Barcelona saying he would have preferred to stay at the Nou Camp.
The defender announced that he would be leaving the club as a player when his contract expires as the club was not ready to offer him a anwe contract as a player.
Abidal told Radio Montecarlo that he did not agree with the clubs decision as he felt better than he two years ago and the fact that he was not given any specific reason as to why he was being released.
-I do not understand it. I've fought for them and I'm in great shape. I feel better than two years ago. They gave me no reason, other than it was a 'professional' decision.
-Inevitably, [the decision to release me] calls into question my ability to continue playing football. I am the first person to judge my form.
- First of all, I will not put my life at stake. That is why I'm a little upset with the club's decision. Either way, this is football, said the player.
Abidal has been with the Catalans for six years in which he has won four Primera Liga titles, two Copa del Rey's and two UEFA Champions League titles.
