Usare Primary claims Suba Lakers junior tourney

The second edition of Suba Lakers seven aside Junior Girls Tournament came to an end with Usare Primary school being declared the new winners.

Usare Primary eliminated Wasaria in the semis finals to book a date with Christ's Gift Academy who had dispatched Mbita Primary in the other semi final.

A barren draw was the result in the final game but Usare Primary became victors after winning it 3-1 in post match penalties.

16 primary school teams participated in the tournament earmarked for girls aged Under 14. Each participating team played three preliminary games before moving to the knockout stages.

After being knocked off from the semis, Mbita Primary emerged victorious over Wasaria 1-0 with the lone goal coming off Laurine Achieng, one of the smallest players at the tournament.

According to one of the organizers Joe Peterson, the close to 200 participants at the tournament were also taught how to take control of their own lives and make decisions that will help to build a better future.  Lucy Ondari from CRADLE shared with them at the beginning of the day.

Peterson, a staunch Christian, shared the Gospel with them during a break in the action.  The District Quality Assurance Officer also took time to watch them play and share some important pieces of advice.

Each team received a ball and a certificate.  The 2nd and 3rd place teams both received cash awards given directly to the participants.  The 1st place team also received a cash prize, along with a jersey and pair of shorts for each player.  The outstanding performers were also recognized and given jerseys and shorts.
