The Premier League is here with us again and truth be told, fans have their
expectations, and many harbour high hopes that the new season will be
accompanied by new and completely exciting stuff.
However as is the game, there can't always be good news which is the case for AFC Leopards
whose fans are already suffering heartache.
For the second consecutive league tie, Leopards
playing unit has remained blunt and many argue that they are already
running out of ideas which has seen them ask for head coach Tom Olaba's head.
Portuguese tactician Vitor Salvado had been hyped
fans and the media to take over the club after Jan Koops was
sent packing but that never saw the light of day as the then
assistant coach Olaba, a former Mtibwa Sugar instructor was handed
the job in what many say was a politically instigated decision.
Whatever it was, Leopards have so far struggled.
Against Chemelil Sugar
, they had to rely
on a late Noah Abich penalty to calm the already dismayed fans and after
settling for another draw against Sony Sugar
at home, fans are demanding the axing of Olaba.
Simple thing is, it becomes a near impossibility
for a coach to deliver fully whenever the supporters are not behind him
and this tends to interfere with the players as well. Since Leopards fall
victim to management crises more often than any other club, it is proper
that such issues with coaching are sorted out amicably.
Last season ,the captain's armband fell to
Martin Imbalambala and was once or twice handed to either Mike Baraza
or Eric Masika. However, when Allan Wanga was handed the armband this season ,it raised
serious doubts since, not only has Allan Wanga stayed at the club for a
shorter time compared to a player like Charles Okwemba, but he is also not settled at the club considering that it was only until the
final minutes in the transfer window that his move to Oman was cut down.
Is that also an issue that the club has to solve?
At the moment, Leopards are stuttering but on the bright side, it is still early in the season. It will take the
management, the players and the fans to work up a solution before the
situation gets out of hand.
