It’s very disappointing that Harambee stars have not qualified the for the 2017 African cup of nations that will be hosted in Gabon early next year. With a great start away to Congo in this campaign the national team dismally performance at home to Zambia losing 2-1 at home putting the campaign morale in jeopardy.

The dismissal of the then Kenyan fans’ darling coach Adel Amrouche following his suspension by the world governing body for insulting a referee brought the teams fighting spirit to a halt. This brought to a decline in the performance which started deteriorating.

The introduction of successful Bob Williamson did not bring much impact to the team either despite the huge pay he took home that the new football office could not bear. Nick Mwendwa and his office though not a fan base support brought in a little known Stanley Okumbi at the helm of the team.

At the beginning the team did poorly to a lowly ranked Guinea Bissau away receiving 1-0 loss that was followed by criticism of poor fielding by Okumbi. The fans through the new media expressed their dissatisfactory from the technical bench of the national team. This did not trouble the soccer management that pleaded for time to the national team.

Since then the team went on to lose again at home to the Guinea Bissau in their return fixture though in terms of play and performance, we noted positives.in the international friendlies against Tanzania and Uganda the team registered barren draws which did not impress the fans either.

In June, the national team from all odds beat a highly rated Congo to diminish their hopes of qualifying to Gabon with a 2-1 thrashing a result that enabled Kenya move to position 86 in the FIFA ranking. With many doubting thomases that it was a good day in Okumbis’ office, they said that stars would not go far.

Harambee stars beating Congo in Nairobi, drawing to a star studded Uganda cranes in Kampala and drawing to tight former African champion’s chipolopolo in Lusaka has proved maturity. Watching from a glance, I noted that the team has exhibited great improvement from all the departments.

Fans and the football managers should now nature this team with the technical department. There are areas however that the team needs to work on to see them one of the toughest side in the region:

1.            Loss of Concentration, in three  games against Congo away, guinea Bissau in Nairobi and Zambia in Lusaka the team lost concentration that really cost them five clear points that would have mathematically see them through to cup of nations finals.

2.            Individual fighting spirit/brilliance-a few players have proved individual hard work that needs not to be coached. The players should be told the importance of their personal effort to assist the team do well especially the striking department.

3.            Technical and tactics- the team should work hard in the display of the game,of late teams play mind games to win matches and Harambee stars should not be an exemption.

4.            Management-proper support from the management through settling of arrears in time, sending tickets, early camping will assist this team to gel properly in readiness for an assignment.

This is a great team for the coming days, lets nature it.lets support Harambee stars.
