KPL Week 22 TOTW: Homeboyz leads the pack as mid-table sides claim slots

Leading pack of Gor Mahia and Tusker FClost vital grounds for outdoing each other in KPL week 22 following their respective draws against Posta Rangers and Western Stima.

After rising high on their recent ‘comebacks’, ‘Visitors at their own home in Mumias ’ AFC Leopards’ had no none of a  thrilling comeback to speak of after  Kakamega Homeboyz produced a stellar four goal against their rivals in the touted Cataluhya derby.

Mumias Complex once more provides the Coach of the week as Mike Mururi turned a diligent student who learnt his lessons from defeat. He came back primed and taught as his side exacted a revenge on AFC Leopards in the  4-1 win in Mumias. 

With up to four solid saves Gabriel Andika made count his to the team line up in absence of Levis Opiyo  during the 1-1 draw against Tusker in Machakos.

 The keeper coud have done little to save the opener after a defensive blunder.however , he somehow picked himself up with breathtaking save against a lethal Allan Wanga before sealing a point with other in the tense final end of the match.

Onguso debuts in defense

One of Andika’s back line guard, Wesley Onguso made a remarkable contribution in both his  defense duties  and on the attack foot  in the 1-1 draw against leader Tusker. Plying the left back role, The ex Somalia based defender  did his role well in coping with Noah Wafula pace as well as combining upfront with  Kennedy Otieno Agogo in attack.

Moments after missing from a dropped set piece situation, he bagged the assist from a well taken corner turned in by Joash Onyango as Stima pulled leveled.

Homeboyz trio in

 Kakamega Homeboyz  Athman Buki settles for the right back slot after a swash buckling display in the 4-1 thrashing of AFC Leopards. The ex Tusker and Bandari defender has managed to keep the slot since linking up with Mike Mururi and his consistency has seen him keep  the right back role at the club .

 Robinson Kamura rose from a potentially disastrous start to ultimately win  the game for the win- Mathare United . After missing the previous clash, Kamura was slow of the block but one of his masterpiece strikes saw Mathare back to winning ways and four places up to third  as  Slum Boys rear guard mustered a  clean-sheet .

Rock solid display from  Jockins Atudo an offensive minded side for Gor Mahia ending another evening in a frustration  of a barren draw.  A team player the was at hand to bail out his defenders blunders and his safety first was key in keeping Posta end line intact, shipping only channels of conversation but not  goal against an all out  Gor Mahia team  teeming with attackers. 

His stunning strike aside Sunday Mutuku’s role at the centre of pitch in the clash against AFC Leopards was one of a thousands. The lanky midfielder played a phenomenon role  in protecting the team back line and kick starting hosts  attack in the tie. He capped his fine performance for the day with the long range stunner for Homeboyz’s second goal.  

There seems no end to the one of the man behind Sofapaka’s  turn of form and Moses Dube Odhiambo  was at his recent best in the clash as the struggling outfit win against Ushuru as he carried on his goal account with a creation for the third goal in the win. 

In absence of Humphrey Meino in Tusker-Stima line up, Harambee Stars fresh call up Kenneth Muguna proved the midfield sheriff against Hashim Ssempala and Cersidy Okeyo . Muguna’s thrived in the box to box role in the clash with his galloping runs and incisive passes  upfront seeing Stima mounting a number of threatening paced attack against Tusker.

Wanga, Ndungu feature

After sessions in the ‘dark’  Muhoroni Youth ace Samuel Ndungu gets reinstated to the team of the week after his convincing and consistent show that has saw the youngster  claim an assist role in their 1-0 penalty win over Thika United.

Andrew Murunga has undoubtedly find a new home at Homeboyz after  stint at lower league side FC Talanta. The top striker form saw him earning a sub role but his prowess has seen him book a starting X1 in the Kakamega outfit. The former Tusker pair unleashed his beast mode once more in the clash against AFC Leopards with a goal.

KPL returnee Allan Wanga is on course of rolling out a successful campaign after stint out of the country.  Three goal in five games and the striker stands as a perfect  start for what striker should be doing and  all pointers shows to the possibility of  the former Azam man bettering the run with title chasing Brewers.
