Kenyan Premier League Week 17 action presented thrilling encounters with shocking results in some games. Gor Mahia’s fine run was brought to a halt by Homeboyz; Mathare suffered a shocking defeat at Western Stima while Leopards finally registered a win after three months!.

Futaa.com looks at top performers in different matches played over the weekend.

Goal keeper

Ronny Kagunzi-The City Stars man was the reason his side picked a point at Posta Rangers. He stood tall between the posts to deny the likes of Brian Nyakan, Dennis Mukaisi, Clavin Odongo and John Nairuka. He was on several occasions called into action when his backline exposed him.

Defenders

Athman Buki-Kakamega Homeboyz (Right-back) - The experienced defender did well against the reigning Kenyan Premier League champions. He defended solidly thwarting K’Ogalo’s attack from the left flank and helped in attack as well. He even had a goal disallowed after raising high to node home from a set-piece midway through the first half.

Charles Momanyi-Kakamega Homeboyz (central defender)- The lanky defender had a good game against Gor Mahia. He won nearly all aerial duels and kept Jacques Tuyisenge quite in the game. He was caught out of position on one or two occasions but was one of the reasons Gor rarely had a sniff at Homeboyz’ goal area.

Ramadhan Yakubu-AFC Leopards (central defender) did the donkey work against Thika United. He kept Joel Tata and Ray Omondi at bay as Leopards registered a rare clean-sheet in the 4-0 drubbing of Thika United.

Shafique Batambuze-Tusker (Left-back)-The Ugandan was solid against Ulinzi helping his side come from a goal down to pick maximum points. He was caught out of position for Samwel Onyango’s opener but redeemed himself with assured defending. He also helped out in attack and his combination with Robert Omunuk caused Ulinzi numerous problems with the later bagging the equalizer.

Midfielders

Sunday Mutuku-Kakamega Homeboyz-The Kakamega Homeboyz skipper led by example throwing himself to each and every challenge. He guarded his back-line well thwarting Gor Mahia’s attack through the center. He nearly capped his superb performance with a goal but his seemingly goal-bound shot in the first half was blocked.

Kennedy Muguna- Western Stima- The youngster has been one of the best young players in 2016. Against Mathare he bossed the midfield and capped it with the lone goal of the match; like in the first leg against the Slum Boys, he was tidy on the ball keeping it simple as his side overcame Mathare.

Hillary Echesa-Chemelil Sugar (Right-wing)- He continued with his scoring form bagging the winner against Sofapaka. The veteran midfielder set up Laban Gambareko for the opener before scoring the winner to help his side collect maximum points from the game. He maintains his position from let week's team of the week.

Strikers

Paul Mungai Kiongera-AFC Leopards- Kiongera capped his full debut with a goal and two assists. He looked like what Ingwe has been missing and will surely be a key player for Ivan Minnaert’s side. He caused Thika United lots of problems through the middle and on the flanks.
