They simply had no experience at the continental stage at all.
Wesley Kemboi is yet to convince me on his capabilities while the duo of Mungai Kiongera and Edwin Lavatsa are still raw at this level.
Moses Arita was the only one who had some sort of experience but his form is questionable.
So where did we expect to get goals from?
So the inclusion of Mike Baraza was welcome, considering that he is more than just a forward player who can get goals.. He is a thinker and a man who can provide.
But I still feel that we are short going forward.
I know that we are trying to blood the next generation of strikers, but you still have to worry for our goal tally at national level.
We simply are not scoring enough goals and even though we are tight at the back, we need to get goals to win games.
So I asked someone what he thought about our problem.. Is it that we are poor, lack technique or are unlucky?
In the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup final, we had plenty of chances to score goals but we wasted them.. Are we just poor in-front of goal because if you think of it, Dennis Oliech and Allan Wanga aside, we do not have consistent goal scorer.
He thinks that they just lack confidence in their ability.
According to him, we castigate our strikers for one bad game and again, we never give them a chance to settle over a long period of time, just like Oliech and Wanga have.
We have to find one, or a way soon. We have to look for a way of getting our groove back.
Burundi may be an easy bet but in the larger picture, where are we going to get goals from, especially when we play the tougher sides, what will happen?
With our record, even beating Burundi looks a tough task.
