Blog: Where are the KPL goal-fests?

I am proud of our Premier League clubs and how they have transformed the local soccer arena for the past few years, fans have started trickling back to the football zones and again we all look forward to the weekend match-day, either in the stadium or on television.

However, I am a bit devastated by the displays we watch every week.. I mean, there is no real back breaking action.

The usual always happens.. We rarely see 4-4 matches.. let alone 3-3.

We don't see super-class matches.. Rarely adrenaline rushes... And I am talking especially about the current crop of leading clubs in the country.

......

There are rarely goal-fests in the KPL and you ask why many fans follow the foreign leagues.. Because there are goals in them.. We want to see goals scored.. We want action.

Out there, we see crackers from strikers and hat-tricks... I know that you will say defence is key, but the best part of the game is goals..

How many times do we see goal-fests from our leading clubs? It is mostly 1-0 or 2-0 in the matches.. Rarely walks in the park.

When you talk of why people follow Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus, Bayern Munich and others, those teams find the back of the net at least more than three times in games more often than not.

....

Look though at Gor Mahia's score-board and most of their matches end 1-0 or 2-1. Even though they are league leaders, they struggle and strain a lot to score goals and even against the lower teams.

If you think of it... The only comfortable game where Gor scored goals recently was the one against Nairobi City Stars which ended four goals in Gor's favour and that was way back in July.

So I wonder what we can do to give the league abit of edge... We do not have goal-fests.

Goals and goal-mouth action will lift the league, it will create interest.. Football is about fun as much as it is about other important things... Goals are a must for me.

....

What is the matter... is it our strikers? Are they the problem? No wonder Harambee Stars coach Henri Michel laments on lack of natural strikers.. What to do?

One thing is for sure.. We need goals galore.
