Well, what can I say about Tusker FC?
Top of the table, defending champions?? Not at all.. infact, pure luck, lady made or dark magic sounds more like it.
Or as someone told me.. Di Matokeo??? Hehehe.
I really do not know, it is as puzzling to me as it is you. Tusker top of the Premier League. I would not have bet on it a month ago.
How lucky can a team get?
Second season running
As I have said here countless times, we have been abject as a team, our performances have looked disjointed with the players looking tired on occasions and like they have not been paid.
The only saving grace has been that the results of others in positions that matter have been equally appalling.
Just like last season, we were poor, but the rest were far poorer. With the exception of Gor Mahia; AFC Leopards, Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars have been very poor.
Last season, it was a similar story as Ulinzi could not convince themselves that they could win a game and in the end we won the title.
Repeat this season? It seems.
Leopards have bottled it, they had the chance to be in a strong position at this stage, but alas, pressure from within has killed their chances of winning the title.
Which has given us a real chance of retaining it.
Apart from Gor, whom we face three games to the end of the season, the rest of the fixtures are easy measy.
Of the six matches left, Karuturi Sport, Gor and the Nairobi City Stars are away from home, while Thika United, Muhoroni Youth and Western Stima all come to Kasarani.
All in all, the only match we get to play outside Nairobi is the Karuturi one.
If those games can't produce 16 out of 18 points, then we have no business being champions. I can even revise that figure to 14, because I am sure the others will drop points.
This really should be a walk in the park.
Which makes the appointment of Robert Matano a decision that was well calculated. In the current climate, Matano is the best man to be incharge of the side.
He will push the players to work hard and ensure that they do their very best in the remaining matches. He will make sure the players give 100% and take whatever points are on offer.
With goal difference not an issue, we should really, really win the title.
What will aid us on the way there though, will be a favourable result over the weekend when AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia face off.
I call a draw there.. and if so, full steam to the title.
