Blog: TPL: I want final day drama

The 2011-12 English Premier League season was one to remember.

The finish was brilliant, with Manchester City beating their neighbours and rivals United to the tape on goal difference.

It was drama to the end, with City losing the title with four minutes to go, then coming back from behind to win it.

That was a butterflies in stomach moment and for once, I wished that I was born in that English City.

To date, apart from the season Arsenal went unbeaten, nothing comes close to that feat, it was fabulous.

Happened in Kenya

In Kenya, it happened last season, but at the wrong end of the table.

Nairobi City Stars and Bandari were locked in a battle for the right to stay in the KPL, which went all the way to the last day.

Bandari needed a win at the tricky Chemelil Sugar, while City Stars hosted Karuturi Sport at home.

City Stars went on to win 4-2, but with Bandari also needing a win, they could only manage a draw and thus were sent back to the second tier on goal difference.

It was a heart wrenching moment for the dockers, but it added to the suspense and the drama that top flight football needs and craves.

Hope it happens

For the sake of the Premier League, I hope that it happens this year.

If we can have a scenario where at the end of the day, the league could be won on goal-difference, it would do wonders for the league.

Supersport would sell the even across the continent, while our press, which is usually full of international football stories, would also make a meal of it.

I would hate to be a fan of one of the clubs, but wow, how Kenyan football would benefit.

It would lift the league's ailing profile and even give the sponsors something to smile about.

Who would prevail

Imagine if Gor Mahia and AFC leopards go head on, during the last day of the season?

The vibe on social media would be huge. There would have to be two trophies.. One at City Stadium and the other in Muhoroni.

If Tusker FC will also be in the mix, a third trophy would be at Kasarani or Nyayo.

Imagine the headlines, the accusations and counter-accusations.. The refereeing appointments and related issues.. Nyamweya having a say.. Jan Koops, Logarusic.. Ooh the sub plots and plots.. Amazing.

I wish it happens.. The KPL needs it.
