The thing that impressed me most during the Harambee Stars- Bafana match the other day was not the Harambee Stars.
Neither was it the visiting Bafana.
The weather was very good, it behaved well, but it did not impress me either.
The match officials were okay, balanced infact, but not them.
The fans did.
Solid
If there was a thing that the match and Kenyan football really needed, it was a good turnout from the fans.
And they did not dissapoint.
Thousands showed up, despite the prevailing weather conditions.
Even the high ticket prices did not deter them, as was the fact that the match was played on a Tuesday night.
And even though the threat of Al-Shabaab loomed large, they still came in their numbers.
Poor turnout
I was one of those who prescribed to the school of thought that we would struggle to fill half the stadium.
How wrong I was proved.
The fans came out in full force and on a day when dissapointment would be the end result, they behaved very well.
It was also nice to see a good number of South Africans in the crowd too, some of whom I can assure you took their first steps into the Nyayo Stadium on that day.
As were a couple of Kenyan fans.
Keep it up
My hope is that it can continue that way and we can fill up every stadium and every match played in the country.
It should also be motivation to FKF, as if a friendly match against South Africa can do so well, how about a proper match like Ivory Coast or Nigeria?
It was very encouraging to see the fans come out and watching from television, I felt very envious of them.
Atleast, next time, I won't miss out.
