Lack of value.
The issue with non-performance and so on, can be attached to many things, like money, confidence and others.
Harambee Stars though, have been there perennially, they have had poor performance syndrome for so long and even if we try pinpoint something and work on it, it never changes.
So what is the real, issue with the Stars?
Lack of value
In my opinion, it is the lack of value attached to the Stars.
The Harambee Stars are the Kenyan national football team.. which means that they are the pride of the nation, the givers of hope, the tormenters of our enemies and the shoulder to lean on.
That is what a real national team should be, but is ours anything close to that?
Do we really consider our national team as all those emotional things.. Do we feel the joy and sorrow associated with a national team?
I would say not.
We do not have pride in our team, that is why we do not have a common jersey for it to this day.
There is no pride because we do not have an anthem for them... Like the one the Gor Mahia fans sing to their club.
There is no hope in them because we rarely support them when they are in need.
Emotion is close to zero because we accept defeat like a normal thing.
We do not scare our enemies because the players who don our jersey do not give their all.
Our national team is the most defiled brands or if you like, entities I have ever known. It is used like a rag, or tissue paper and then dropped and flashed away.
It only matters to us when we lack something to do, or are forced to do so by CAF, CECAFA and FIFA.
The Stars only come up as a by the way, they do not matter.
They do not have a value in our lives, they are just a name, not a body, not something we love.
The Stars have no value.. none at all.
