My headline might sound abit alarmist, but it will explain itself in my post shortly.
It is about the so- called biggest transfer of the current European window.
The newspapers called it life-changing.. title winning. The blogs made it sound like judgement day for one side and the promised land for the other.
Others said it was the biggest ever single thing to happen to football.
And that the world would end as soon as it was completed.
No biggie
Well it did and the world is still here.
So far, there have been no apocalyptic tendeancies and life has moved on.
Just like all we level headed humans thought it would.
If you are lost, I am talking about the flying Duthcman Robin Van Persie and his move to Manchester United.
Ill fated move I think.
Did not fly
I know that it is just one day into the 2012-13 English Premier League season.
But I will still highlight the start that the man with wings made.
Pre-match to the 1-0 loss to Everton, the headlines predicted a hatrick for the Van man.
Others said he would do it Rambo style and take down Everton on his own.
And carry United the way he supposedly did Arsenal, last season.
Not in the game
But alas, he didn't.
There was no revelation on the day. No fancy goal. Nothing.
No fire and brimstone.
There was no man flying, no big deal, no alienic activity.
Just a straightforward Everon win.
Live to regret
Arsenal are nowhere near my favourite club. Not close.
However, I back them in this one; Van Persie was a traitor to do what he did.
I remember the Arsenal- United clashes of days gone by. The rivalry was intense and none of the teams could stand each other.
Van Persie was one of the Arsenal and after all his injury woes and the extent to which the club stood by him, he still walked away.
I think he will live to regret the move.
Can't fly
There are 37 games left to go and I will be waiting with bated breath for the season to progress.
And see how the Van man does.
Though I suspect, we will not see him flying.
