Nyayo National Stadium
It is d-day here in Kenya if you are a football fan.. We are facing a steep battle, the loss of lives is to be anticipated and the shedding of blood will happen.. It is do or die and life or death..

Just kidding.

The Harambee Stars face off with the Bafana Bafana in a friendly match later this evening, a match I look forward to with aplomb.

It is the first time in a while (Forget Botswana), that we have had a proper friendly match here at home, where there will be no pressure at all and there are no cash rewards on offer.

Exciting times.. yes they are.

Superstars

Forgive my excitement, but it is not common that we have a match here in Nairobi where the likes of the revered Victor Wanyama and Siphiwe Tshabalala show up.

Especially for leisure.

We are used to seeing lesser names in world football here, and that is usually because they are qualifying for something and we are accompanying them there.. Nothing not too important for us.

There will be no pressure tonight and I can assure you, the players will revel in the chance to face one of the bigger sides in African football.

Let's just hope the rain doesn't come out..

Pitch

Talking of superstars and the rain.. How embarrassing would it be if it rained during or just before the game and considering the woeful state of the Nyayo stadium pitch??

Imagine all those Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates players sliding in the mud....

What a sight that would be, but you wonder why the federation did not think of taking the game to the much better equiped Kasarani ground??

At stake here are reputations and lives of important people.. Why take such a risk??

But yeah, it's FKF.... What reputation do they have to maintain??

Enjoy the game

Regardless of whatever may happen, I will be at Nyayo to watch what is for once a meaningful friendly match.

I will hope that the rain stays away and the fans turn-out in force and oh yes, the Harambee Stars run out convincing 3-0 winners.

Knowing how Kenya is, this may be the last time we are seeing a high profile team here in another five years.. Who knows??

Humanity is king
