Blog: I long for the day.....

I long for the day when the Kenyan Premier League will be every African player's dream league in Africa. When we won't be losing players to South Africa's second division teams and so forth. When if all is not well in Europe, players will only be thinking of coming back to the KPL.

For that day when top European clubs will be scouting players directly from the KPL.

I long for the day when Harambee stars will be a force to reckon with in African football. The day when choosing players to play for the National Team will be a headache. Not because there are few players worth but rather because there are many.

When playing for a European club will not guarantee a place in the starting eleven. When it won't even guarantee a call up.

Long term contracts

The day players will start signing long term contracts with clubs and honour the contracts. Long term here does not mean two years, I mean four years and above.

The day when clubs will respect a players contract. Not dropping them in the middle of the season when the transfer window is closed.

When clubs will not be doing a total change of players every season. Buying over seven players every season is not healthy. Its not development of any kind if you ask me. When players bought for four hundred thousand Kenya Shillings will not be the record transfer.

That day, when players well-fare will be catered for fully. When a player will take football as a full time occupation and be able to fed for their families.

Fans that love the game

When players' salaries will be worth what they do in the field. Their allowances whether club allowances or for the national team will not be delayed. simply put, they will be paid well whether its the basic salary or the allowances.

Will the day come when discipline will reign in KPL regardless of which teams are playing or the outcome?

The day when the fans will keep our calm even when a referee makes wrong decisions. That day when we will start using the right channel and method to forward our grievances over refereeing? When after a match joking about ones loss will be that; a joke.

Nothing serious.

Fairness in the media

That day, when our house will be put to order. Organised. No more wrangles in the management of Football as a whole and management of clubs. When the leaders elected to office will deliver and satisfy our needs rather than theirs.

When incase of misunderstanding, there will be no pointing fingers. Own up and correct the mistake. When a leader will be challengeable without one losing their jobs.

When that day will come, Kenyan football will grow. That day journalists will be fair in their coverage regardless of which team they support. I really long for that day... But before it comes, we have to get good leadership.

That is the key.. but when will the day come when we will have leaders in offices rather than politicians?

Let us make it happen

Simply put, we as football fans long for the day when our league will grow and surpass other leagues in Africa. Its not impossible as we have the resources to make that happen. We just need to make it happen.

Truly I long for that day.
