He’s little known but he’s one of the emerging talents. Watch him and you will be amazed by his magic and even misjudge his age.
In 2000, five years after his birth, he joined a defunct Ruby FC and started training as a striker; and no doubts Kennedy Obuya now at Elite FC (formerly Ligi Ndogo) is destined for the very top of his profession.
mum’s boy
Few months into the team, the wonder-boy had scored 32 goals in 43 appearances in U6 category.
-I was inspired by my mum who’s was a football diehard in the late 80’s and early 90’s when AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia were the only clubs to watch, Obuya told futaa.com.
-It’s because of her that I went to the academy and started training as a striker, surprisingly, since then she attends all my games, he continued.
honorouble
Obuya is a man full of accolades, on joining AIS Kenya, in 2004, the lethal striker scored 36 goals in 46 matches in a span of four years; won the Golden Boot award in the Imara Daima Cup (7 goals)-2007, AIS Player of the year-2007, Jonathan Gloag Player of the year-2008, and Won Golden Boot (10 goals). As a captain he won the Jonathan Gloag tournament in 2008 and Golden cup with AIS in 2009 before moving to Five Star Warriors in 2010, where he netted 12 goals in 20 matches.
memorable event
In 2009 he was in the Warriors team that won the Milan International Tournament in Italy where he continued with his prowess scoring four goals to become the golden-boot runners-up winner.
Last year he was instrumental for Elite FC (formerly Ligi Ndogo) in the Keele International Cup in UK, where they lost 4-3 in the plate semi-finals but something great still lingers on his mind.
-It was a dramatic game from 3-0 down to 3-3 and 4-3 full time score; I remember coming in as a substitute and I scored the first goal which really motivated the team, recalls Obuya .
greater heights
Since Elite FC was adopted, Obuya has made 11 appearances, scoring eight goals out of 11 appearances last season.
Though the 2012 season is coming closer, the upcoming star whose dribbling and shooting skills are superb is ready to sign for any willing topflight club.
-My dream is to play professional football abroad, but to reach there I have to start from our local league, explained the 16 years old striker.
keep going
Obuya plays for the Five Star Warriors on regular days, but shows up for Elite FC, a team whose home-ground is the De Paul Centre in Karen, Nairobi, on availability.
- We train mostly in the weekends but rarely during the week, unless we’re having a big match ahead. Due to that I normally train with my home team Five Star Warriors FC, says the GCSE student.
He is an ardent AFC Ingwe Leopards fan and holds AFC Leopards’ Allan Wanga as his role model with Liverpool FC being his best foreign team.
