Francis Baraza

Having left his role as head Coach at Sony Sugar at the close of the 2011 season, Francis Baraza can stand up, look back and thump his chest for a job well done.

A recent release by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), revealed that Sony Sugar was placed as the fourth best Kenyan team in the past decade; from 2001 – 2010.

Though now out of the club, he can only take pride in the placing considering his seven years at the helm – though disrupted a little by Rishadi Shedu’s appearance in 2010 directly accounts for the recognition.

delivered Sony Sugar’s maiden League crown

Baraza joined the Awendo based club back in 2003 as a player but kicked of his managerial stint the next season from August.

In 2005 he took the team to the post league playoff for the first time ever and in 2006 he delivered Sony Sugar’s maiden League crown after the team finished ahead of Tusker FC.

In the 2007 season, Sony was third to Tusker and Mathare United and in 2008 the team was second best to Mathare United.

spot 267 with 153 points

After key players such as Jockins Atudo, Noah Abich and Fred Ajwang amongst others were hounded out of the team for green pastures, Sony ended the 2009 season placed tenth but the team rose once again to end the 2010 and 2011 seasons placed fifth.

From the IFHHS list Sony was placed at spot 267 with 153 points to be placed behind Kenya’s decade best Tusker. Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars took second and third respectively.
