Cristiano Ronaldo sent a strong message to Manchester United ahead of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday, when he fired a hat trick in the 4-1 whitewash of Sevilla in a late La Liga game played at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday 9th February 2013.
Karim Benzema opened scoring for the Los Blancos in the 18th minute, before the Ronaldo show went in to full operation.
Jose Mourinho, the Madrid Coach, had started with the troika of Kaka, Luca Modric, and Michael Essien, resting Meszut Ozil and Sami Khedira, with the Champions League tie against Madrid in mind.
The combination seemed to take nothing from the team anyway, as they put the visitors under pressure from the kick off. The early pressure yielded the desired result with the Benzema goal.
It became 2-0 in the 26th minute, when Cristiano Ronaldo blasted in a ferocious left footed shot, the first of his three goals. The Portuguese made it two just one minute into the second half, and added the third just before the hour mark.
Mourinho pulled his star player four minutes after completing his hat trick. Real Madrid were reduced to 10 men two minutes later, as Gonzalo Higuain was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Sevilla were also reduced to 10 men when Hedwiges Maduro was also sent packing for his second caution.
Real Madrid, place third on the 20-team log hit the 46 point mark with the win to come to within four points of Atletico Madrid and slashed the gap with Barcelona to 13 points.
