2013 Major League Soccer (MLS) champion with Sporting Kansas City Lawrence Olum has been called up to join the national team Harambee Stars currently preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match against Comoros set for Sunday 18 May at the Nyayo Stadium.
As futaa.com has reliably learnt, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) sent a letter requesting the Kenyan international defender to join the national team in camp ahead of the game.
Crowned the championship
The news has warmly been received by the utility man who confirmed availability in what will be his second call up to the national team.
The title enabled Sporting to feature in the upcoming 2014/2015 CONCACAF Champions League which will be another opportunity for the Nairobi born defender to exhibit his prime instincts.
Olum spent four years playing College Soccer at Missouri Baptist University before spending the 2006 season with St. Louis Lions of the USL Premier Development League after graduation.
At St. Louis, he scored nine goals in 16 games. He then turned professional with the Portland Timbers of the USL first Division a year later before moving to Minnesota Thurnder in March 2009.
He joined the MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City in September 2011 after turning out for Austine Aztex and Orlando City as well.
His first call up was in 2012 for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup. He has so far made seven appearances for Sporting KC this season.
