The promotion of Kenya Football Federation (KFF) Nationwide League winners Muhoroni Youth to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has been questioned by the immediate past federation Chairman Mohammed Hatimy.
Speaking to futaa.com, Hatimy who led Football Kenya Limited (FKL) up and till the all inclusive elections held on Saturday 29 October 2011 states that FKF should use the constitution of the past federation (FKL) up and till they get on in place after three months.
On that note, recognising a team from the Kenya Football Federation (KFF) should not have happened as the constitution that stands and holds is that of FKL.
- The elections were done under the FKL constitution which means it should apply till a new one is put in place after three months, he said
- Promoting Muhoroni Youth is therefore unconstitutional as the league they played in was ‘unknown’. There was only one Nationwide league – that run by FKL and any promoted teams should have come from this league as has been the case, he added
one of the two open spaces
However, as Hatimy speaks, Muhoroni Youth are deep in training waiting to make their debut in Kenya’s top flight for 2012.
The decision to promote the team as well as confirm FKL Nationwide winners Oserian FC for promotion was made at a National Executive meeting on Tuesday 29 November 2011.
Muhoroni took up one of the two open spaces for the 2012 season after the relegation of Mombasa based sides Bandari and Congo United. The place would have otherwise gone to Mahakama FC who ended up second in the FKL Nationwide League.
