A 2-0 win for Rwanda over Eritrea on Saturday 1 December 2012 was enough to see them top Group ‘C’ ahead of Malawi who managed a similar win over Zanzibar in another concurrent tie.
Rwanda scored a goal apiece on either half in the1400hrs local time kick off at the Lugogo Stadium to see Eritrea exit the tournament without a win.
A 15th minute goal by Dadi Birori gave the Amavubi a first half lead. A second followed in the 76th minute through Tumahine Tamuhanga.
Out in Wankulukulu, the Flames of Malawi scored two quick goals through Ndaziona Chatsalira and Chiukepo Msowoya in the third and sixth minutes respectively.
At the close of the group games, Rwanda tops Group ‘C’ with six points. Malawi picked up as many points but sit second with an inferior goal difference.
Zanzibar who were top of the Group after two rounds ends third with four points. Eritrea is last with a point.
