Kenyan International George Blackberry Odhiambo played for 65 minutes as his side Shirak FC beat Armenian giants Pyunik 1-0
in an away game played at the
Hanrapetakan Stadium on Friday 3 May 2013 to be crowned Armenian Champions for the first time since 1999.
Shirak went into the match, a game in hand, with a five point gap over second placed Mika, and needed nothing short of a win to be crowned Champions.
Senegalese midfielder Yoro Lamine Ly scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute to give Shirak the three needed points that takes them eight points clear in the eight team league with two games to spare.
Blackberry, who earned his eight game of the season in the Pyunik win, joined the Armenian Champions early this year on a three year deal from Kenyan Premier League side Nairobi City Stars.
The league title is only the fourth for the side formed in 1958 the other having been back in 1992, 1994 and 1999.
Blackberry, a former Gor Mahia, Randers (Denmark) and Azam FC (Tanzania) player could land a double in his maiden season in Armenia should Shirak beat Pyunik once again on Tuesday 17 May in their defence of the Armenian Cup.
