The 2013 Kenyan Premier League season will kick off on Saturday 16 February 2013.
This is after all amendments to a draft were appended and confirmed then released by the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) to clubs and the media.
Kick off on a high
It had earlier been revealed that the league would kick off on Saturday 10 February 2013 but the kick off weekend has since shifted by a week – with good reason.
- We shifted the dates from 10th as this is the day the Africa Cup of Nations will be holding its final game. We want to have the season kick off on a high hence the shift, said KPL CEO Jack Oguda to futaa.com
With Tusker and Gor Mahia busy on the same weekend with continental games against Seychelles sides St. Michel and Anse Reunion respectively, the opening weekend of the 16-team league will have six ties.
Start off with home games
Of the six opening ties, three will be played on the opening day – Saturday 16 and the other three on Sunday 17 January.
Promoted Bandari and Kakamega Homeboyz will start off with home games against Sony Sugar at the Mbaraki grounds and AFC Leopards in Bukhungu respectively.
Muhoroni Youth will host Thika United in the other Saturday tie at Muhoroni.
On Sunday, City Stars, KCB and Sofapaka will take on Chemelil Sugar, Karuturi Sport and Mathare United in that order.
First leg of the 2013 season will end on Sunday 26 May
After their continental ties on Saturday, Tusker and Gor Mahia will kick off their 2013 league campaign on Wednesday 20 February against Western Stima and Ulinzi Stars respectively.
The first leg of the 2013 season will end on Sunday 26 May and the second leg commences after three weekends – on Saturday 22 June.
The league will conclude on Saturday 9 November with the final eight games in round 30 being played concurrently across various venues.
