AFC Leopards coach Robert Matano was an elated man after marking a zooming start to his reign as the club's head coach with the weekend 1-0 victory against hosts Bandari in the Kenya Premier League match played on Saturday July 15th 2017 at the Mbaraki Sports Complex.
Speaking after the match, a delighted Matano attributed the victory to discipline that the team has started developing and thanked the players for maintaining a strict code of conduct before and during the match which maintained the focus levels to a high standard.
-I am satisfied with the match results. The boys played with a lot of disclipline especially tactical discipline. As you are aware in football what matters is the three points, said Matano.
The match was destined for a barren draw until during the added time when Bandari’s keeper Wilson Obungu made an expensive mistake when he misfired a back pass from Felly Mulumba and second half substitute Marcelous Ingotse intercepted the ball before tapping into the net.
After playing 16 matches, AFC Leopards are placed 11th on the 18 team Kenya Premier League table standing three points behind eight placed Bandari. AFC Leopards host relegation candidates Western Stima at Nyayo Stadium in their next match on Sunday July 30th, 2017 as Bandari travel to SoNy Awendo for a date against 13th placed Sony Sugar.
