KCCA FC was ejected from the Caf Champions league by defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round after a 3-2 aggregate loss as result of a 2-1 away defeat and one all draw at home.
The team manager Mike Mutebi says that he is happy with the overall team performance and that the players gained quality experience throughout the campaign.
-We had a wonderful experience, playing against the kings of Africa. We could say that the draw was not very kind to us but it came early for us to grow. It was a very good test and will bring more self belief to the players, Mutebi said.
The local defending champions enter the draws for the Caf confederations which will be held on Tuesday. He still harbours hopes of reaching the mini-league stages of an elite Caf club competition and further notes that its the only way Uganda premier league can grow in standards.
-We still have a chance to reach another group stage of a continental competition. Our target of reaching the group stages is still alive. We can only improve club football in Uganda if we challenge the best in the continent. The bottom-line is staying and engaging in the continent, whether it’s at Champions league or Confederation.
