Barely a day after flexing its muscle and demoting three KPL clubs for flouting Club licensing rules, Football Kenya Federation FKF be stepping into another realm this Tuesday 10 January afternoon as the Sport Tribunal delivers its verdict on the structure of the Kenya’s top league for 2017 starting 1400 hours.
In what will be a potentially decisive verdict over what has been a contentious issue in Kenya football circles recently, FKF or the Kenya Premier League Limited , will be having their way home when the tribunal makes a ruling over the matter that saw World Governing Body FIFA being dragged into.
Kenya Premier League has not only been reluctant to adopt the federation’s proposition of an expanded league of 18 teams, but also take active steps to resist the move; lobbying and litigation among them.
With the league organizers fronting budgetary challenge among their objection for the new structure, not even federation’s promise to increase the budget for the added teams, would see the former budge prompting the Sport tribunal to approached to resolve the matter as an independent body.
Ahead of the ruling, FKF has demonstrated a measure of guarded optimism regarding the matter with President Nick Mwendwa saying they are confident of a favorable ruling.
-We are in public office and we have a responsibility to discharge our duties as FKF. We have done our part today(on club licensing) Tomorrow, we wait to see what the other will do, Mwendwa said during Monday’s licensing presser.
-One always prepare for what they know. I’m confident we will win this case but let's cross the bridge when we reach there tomorrow when the ruling is made. Let see what it say first, he added.
Footballl power games
The ruling will come as a second one of far reaching importance, coincidentally just a day after FKF’s bold move of relegating three cubs from the top flight league for failing tom meet the club licensing requirement.
It will be another key step in determining the future of the football power games and it will be intriguing to see if FKF’s get another victory after flexing their muscle in the licensing requirement and seeing their wish of promoting three teams to the top flight league realized.
